Fashion week, it's not only models and clothes.

DElight AW 2011/12

DElight presented their Autumn Winter 2011/12 collection also on Sunday, April 3rd in Technopolis, closing this season's Athens Fashion Week.

The collection was based on mustard, burgundy, grey, black and cream, lots of lace and velvet combined in geometric panels, a technique we all know is DElight's specialty.

Basically, I think this is one of those collections that leaves you puzzled at first, then slowly grows into you as you keep going through the pictures...

...and at the end leaves you seriously coveting something made of mustard velvet.

Or maybe that's just me.

In any case, congrats girls!

Dimitri Zafiriou "Le Diner Surréaliste"

Dimitri Zafiriou showed his Autumn-Winter 2011/12 collection titled Le Diner Surréaliste on Sunday, April 3rd in Technopolis during Athens Fashion Week..

Unfortunately, lots were shaken by the ghostly made-up faces of the models and didn't move onto seeing the actual clothes.

I chose to only feature my favourite look, as seen above.

The one that for me embodies the best of the collection: Rich blacks and easy-to-wear greys, interesting knitwear, pieces that - if taken apart from the runway styling - can be easily incorporated into a normal girl's everyday wardrobe as statement pieces.

For example, I would so love to have this cape above, a perfect topping layer, to warm me in the cold days of the winter to come.

Sotiris Georgiou "Multidimensional"

Sotiris Georgiou presented his Autumn-Winter 2011/12 collection titled Multidimensional last Sunday at Athens Fashion Week.







Other than loving his clothes aesthetically, I also believe this is one of the most wearable collections I've seen so far in any of the Athens Fashion Weeks I've attended.

Personally, that's exactly the kind of clothes I'm willing to spend a little bit more for. Not evening wear that gets worn once or twice at best, but minimal, practical, warm (it's a winter collection after all) and very-very interesting outerwear that has great price-per-wear ratio that fully justifies the original investment.
Plus, we all loved the fact that Sotiris chose to use his personal friends as models, thus showing how wearable and made for real people his clothes are.

And of course, fashion bloggers all cheered like crazy for our favourite model, the mermaid-like Despina......who has also managed to post a bunch of amazing backstage pics from the show.

Evangelos Kavathas "Selas" SS2011

Evangelos Kavathas was the first to show on the last day of this season's Athens Fashion Week and the only day I chose to attend this year.

The reasons I missed the first three days are basically too much of my actual work, the one that pays the bills that is, and the fact that the designers I really care about and would actually wear their clothes (or already do) were all scheduled to show that day.

Back to the show:

The collection was named Selas (the Greek name for Aurora) and it was actually Spring Summer 2011.

As most of you know, showing your Spring collection in March is generally considered way too late in fashion business. However, if you're a small-scale sur mesure designer who sells directly to clients who are just now starting to look for their summer wear, this move makes a lot of sense strategically.

As for the actual clothes, well I liked them a lot.

I don't wanna bore you with details, I'm just gonna say that the way Evangelos designs shows he likes women and makes his clothes having in mind beauty, practicality and just a little bit of edge.

Most of all, I like the fact that he returned to using pumpkin, the colour that first made him known in the form of that amazing jacket that won him the Newcomer award back in October 2009.

Ok, I also simply adore this colour! And I have the feeling we're yet to see way more amazing things from him. Congratulations!

Clothing as dwelling for the body

Athens School of Fine Arts is inaugurating its permanent collaboration with Athens Fashion Week this season.

This past week, four teams from the school started working in the Fashion Week's premises in Technopolis, participating in a workshop titled Clothes as a Dwelling for the Body under the supervision of Michalis Manousakis.

The students werd called to create their own original work based on the concept of that clothes are literally acting as homes for our bodies. You can understand why it looks so interesting to me and hopefully to you, being readers of this blog.

The workshop started last Monday, March 28th and it was open to the public every afternoon, to visit and watch the students work. The presentation of the results will take place today, as a catwalk, at 21:00.
