Other than loving his clothes aesthetically, I also believe this is one of the most wearable collections I've seen so far in any of the Athens Fashion Weeks I've attended.
Personally, that's exactly the kind of clothes I'm willing to spend a little bit more for. Not evening wear that gets worn once or twice at best, but minimal, practical, warm (it's a winter collection after all) and very-very interesting outerwear that has great price-per-wear ratio that fully justifies the original investment. Plus, we all loved the fact that Sotiris chose to use his personal friends as models, thus showing how wearable and made for real people his clothes are.
And of course, fashion bloggers all cheered like crazy for our favourite model, the mermaid-like Despina......who has also managed to post a bunch of amazing backstage pics from the show.
First of all, let me just say that when your trade is clothes, this is simply an ingenious concept for your business cards.
The holder of the cards, Sotiris Georgiou in his studio, shot back in December, wearing one of his AW 2010-11 Perplexity collection sweaters.
And this is a close-up of how that Jackson Pollock - inspired sweaters are made...
...with help from the experienced hands of Vangelis, his assistant.
I'm taking the chance to post these pics now, as a remembrance of how incredible and loved his previous winter collection was, and also, as teaser for his upcoming AW 2011-12 Multidimensional collection that will be presented this Sunday, April 3rd at 18:00 in Technopolis Gazi, on the last day of Athens Fashion Week.
Greek radio producer and Just The 2 Of Us singing show judge Athinais Nega wearing what seems to be a dress from Greek designer's Sotiris Georgiou AW2010-11 Perplexity collection that was inspired by Jackson Pollock's art.
Pollock expresses somehow the confusion and chaos we are experiencing both socially and personally in our day and age. I am interested in the chaotic concept that has neither beginning nor end.
On Saturday, October 9th Sotiris Georgiou invited us to Dexameni open-air cinema in Kolonaki, Athens to attend his Spring-Summer 2011 fashion show titled"Forms". An open-air cinema is indeed a very interesting venue choice for a fashion show, yet it was successfully incorporated into the concept. The poster was placed inside the designated movie poster glass box and the show opened to the music of the 20th Century Fox intro.
But let's enjoy the clothes, shall we? I should warn you though, I couldn't bring myself to edit furthermore so the post ahead is rather image-heavy. And then it was over and we were all in awe.
If I had to describe the collection, I'd say it was heavily navy inspired, but in a good way. Sotiris Georgiou managed to avoid the bad clichés usually associated with the nautical theme and kept only the fresh elements, in a graphic-design-meets-Popeye-the-Sailor way. Especially since the female models looked worryingly a lot like Olive Oyl, but that's a whole other story, already pointed out by Chryssa in her (greek language only) post on Fashionism.
And since this is a personal blog after all, I can only share my personal opinion on whether I liked it or not: I totally loved it!
More specifically: I loved the turquoise/red/grey/blue colour combos.
I loved the easy-to-wear slouchy shapes.
I loved THAT dress.
I loved the weird "tails" on the men's t-shirts (successfully re-inventing the classic tee is always a plus for me).
I loved THAT clutch bag. Oh, and THAT pleated trench.
I even loved the odd-at-first-look choice of chalky fluo pink lipstick for the models' minimal make-up, best seen up-close in pics on Joanna's portrait post.
And of course my favourite detail of all - which should be easily copied by economically struggling yet sartorially restless young gentlemen - a punch of colour from the red socks peeking down from the men's trouser hems, one of the things I could not but live-tweet straight from the show.
